LEADING BEYOND PERFORMANCE
There are numerous definitions of a leader. Someone who gets the results. Someone who produces the highest revenue. Someone who ensures maximum growth. Someone to be scared of. Someone to respect. Someone who gets the highest salary.
For me the best leader is someone who understands that results, growth, high productivity are all consequences. The cause of all of these are people. People are the core of success. I have seen many leaders who exhausted their people for results. The results were achieved, but the price was way too high. Because of that the success was not sustainable, it did not last.
What best leaders know is that if they take care of their people, their people will take care of the results.
There are leaders who do not care of themselves, the state they are in. That gradually leads to a burnout. A leader in this state, by default, cannot be efficient.
There are leaders who do not care about their people. As a result, people either leave over time or they stay and get exhausted, stressed and de-motivated.
A good leader creates environment for his people to be top performers. By understanding the people, supporting them, nourishing their gifts and talents. Only strong trees can yield good fruits. If a tree is weak, it will not bring any. Strong leaders would nourish their garden to see it grow, develop, bloom and yield fruits. Weak leaders diminish their own garden and eventually get no fruit.
The strength of a leader is not in control and exercising his power.
It is in the ability to see power in others and give space to it without any fear of competition or being threatened. Great leader has to be at a relatively high level of inner development himself.
Leaders cannot get others higher than the level they are at.
A leader is someone who leads. It is just that the direction could be different.
Some leaders lead to professional numbness because that is all they have experienced by themselves.
Great leaders, even if their prior experience was far from being bright, want something better for their people, and they lead to growth, development and expansion.
Performance is a consequence. People are the cause.
